Autoplay That Actually Keeps Playing
· by Kjell
Autoplay has been slightly broken for longer than I care to admit. If you were navigating the library and the queue ran out, playback would just quietly stop. Technically correct - there was nothing in the queue - but not what anyone actually wants. People listen to music to keep music playing.
I reworked it tonight so that autoplay has its own session history for tracks you've navigated to without explicitly queueing them. You can play through an album, then an artist page, then land on a related record, and the player keeps the thread going without asking. Navigation-driven autoplay is its own little state machine now, separate from the main queue, which is the right way to think about it.
I also toned down the in-app status messages. They were appearing too often and staying too long, and a music player that keeps shouting small things at you is exhausting. Now they only surface when they matter, and they fade faster. The room is quieter. I like it better this way.
