Artist Unknown? A Cleaner Library
· by Kjell
The Artists enrichment pipeline learned a new trick tonight: it now tracks artists it couldn't find metadata for and paints them red in the artists listing. At first I thought about hiding them, but seeing them flagged in red has been way more useful. Zenteek tries its best to find related information, but at one point the API has to give up and face the truth: The artist is unknown to us (yet). The color tells you exactly where the gaps in your library's metadata are, and it invites you to go fix them - either by correcting a misspelled name or by adding an artist to the database manually.
Enabling enrichment now also kicks off the initial album profile downloads automatically, which was an obvious thing to do that I just hadn't gotten around to. The indexer purges orphaned entries on its own now, so the library stays clean without you ever having to think about it, and the scanning background process shows a progress counter in the sidebar so you know where it is. It will also pick up from there later, if you happen to interrupt it. Don't worry.
I also pulled out the experimental "remixer artist detection". It worked about sixty percent of the time, which is worse than nothing - it was creating more confusion than clarity. Cut it cleanly. Sometimes removing a feature, is the feature.
